Fourth Fic of the Defying Destiny Series

Sweet Surrender
by d_huron

"it doesn't mean much
it doesn't mean anything at all
the life I've left behind me
is a cold room"
Heero sat alone at the table, he looked at Duo talking away with his newest friends. This was the first mission, that involved a school, they were not in the same room. It was slowly eating away at them both. He turned back to his plate and ate, wishing for the mission to be over soon.
"I've crossed the last line
from where I can't return
where every step I took in faith
betrayed me
and led me from my home"
Duo sat in the library, he was suppose to be studying for the next day's exam. His mind would not stray from past memories, and doubts about his future. He grasped the golden link of his past, seeking its strength.
"and sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give"
The days passed slowly and painfully for them both. They barely had said more than ten words to each other since they entered the school. Heero was walking down the hall, not really paying any attention. He felt someone pull him to the side, he allowed himself to be pulled, knowing who it was.
"you take me in
no questions asked
you strip away the ugliness
that surrounds me
are you an angel"
Duo kissed his koi passionately, trying to express what he meant to Duo. "I miss you" Their eyes met and Duo saw his emotions reflecting back in those cobalt orbs. "I miss you too" Heero confessed before kissing him back. Unfortunately, they had to leave each other for the time being, praying there would be a next time.
"am I already that gone
I only hope
that I won't disappoint you
when I'm down here
on my knees"
The dark room offered no peace to Heero, sleep would not come to him. His mind raced over the last few months, mainly he thought about Duo. What had he done to deserve him? Heero had no clue, and was scared that what ever it was, would not be enough to keep his love forever. //What do I have to offer but myself and my scars?//
"and sweet
sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give"
Duo tossed and turned in his sleep, he woke from the night terror sweating. He looked at the clock, it was only two in the morning. He sighed and tried to go back to sleep, but could not. His troubled mind would not let go of the past, and was too afraid of the future. //Why?// Duo laid in his bed and thought of Heero, his bolt of lighting in the sky, his eternal flame. //What happens if the bolt or flame dissipates? What does he see in a street rat like me?// He remembered the encounter with Relena earlier that day, she tried once more to gain Heero's heart, but ultimately failed, but she didn't seem to distraught over it. //What happens if someone else comes along, and can give him more than I can//
"sweet
sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give"
After a long month, the mission was completed and the two pilots returned to the safehouse. Facing each other, Duo's hand caressed one of Heero's cheeks. No words were needed, for their actions spoke; in volumes, the depth of their emotion.
"and I don't understand
by the touch of your hand
I would be the one to fall

I miss the little things
oh I miss everything"
Two bodies were tightly intertwined on the bed, Heero held his koi's body as close to himself as possible. Both were sleeping peacefully for the first time in a long time, their dreams were of the future, after the war, together for eternity.
"it doesn't mean much
it doesn't mean anything at all
the life I left behind me
is a cold room"
