Reunion with Destiny
Part 5

Heero froze still holding on to the horse suddenly feeling uneasy about having to face the love he left behind.

"Heero? Is that really you?" Duo spoke, his voice barely a whisper, afraid he was only hallucinating. /Could it really be him? Please gods, don't let this be another illusion./ "Shinigami." He called out to his horse whose head was blocking the face of his visitor. "Come here." The horse pulled away and sauntered over to where Duo now knelt and nuzzled him.

Heero, now realizing there was no chance of turning back, not that he wanted too, but the butterflies in his stomach were threatening to burst free, slowly turned and looked directly into the violet depths he had missed for so long. /He looks like hell./ He thought as he looked over the fey creature in front of him, noticing the loss of weight causing his ribs to show almost hauntingly. His hair, his pride and joy, was haggard and had lost most of its sheen. His eyes, /oh gods the pain they show/, were red and puffy from his tears, yet held a hit of glimmer as he met Heero's gaze.

"Heero." Duo softly said then slowly moved towards him stopping only inches away, not wavering his gaze from the cobalt blue pools still locked on him. He carefully raised a hand to reassure him self but hesitated, allowing it to hover over Heero's cheek. Feeling the warmth emanating, he did what he had wanted to do for all these years. He slapped him.

Back at the house Andrew opened the front door to see a thoroughly annoyed Wufei Chang escorted by his wife Sally. Andrew remembered them as their marriage was held at one of his old master's estates. "Welcome Mr. and Mrs. Chang. It is good to see you again." He said as he reached for their bags and entered the house. "Master Duo is in his room resting."

"Can we go see him?" Sally asked, interrupting the man. "I just want to check and make sure he is okay."

"He is fine, but you may go see for yourself." Sally turned to see Kari come down the stairs to greet them. "It is good to see you again Sally." Kari said as she gave Sally a quick hug. Turning to Wufei. "Are you treating her well?" Sally playfully smacked Kari on the upper arm while Wufei seemed to get even more annoyed.

"Yes he is Kari. His use of the word 'Onna' in describing our kind has radically diminished." She said slightly chuckling.

"Onnas." Wufei muttered under his breath, causing the women to openly crack up. "Can we get back to the reason why we are here in the first place?" He said scowling at them. He was worried for his friend, but was still mad at him for cutting him and the others out of his life.

"Yeah we can. Andrew, can you take care of their bags? I will bring them to see the master." Andrew nodded and left. Kari led them up the grand central stairs towards Duo's room not knowing that he was gone.

Quatre and Trowa rode in the limo towards Duo's estate with Howard in tow. It seems that he had come to check up on Duo and some statue that he had delivered a while back.

"So how is space treating you Howard?" Quatre asked.

"Very well, but it's nice to come back here once in a while. I just worry about the boy." He said with a twinge of remorse in his voice.

Patting him on the shoulder in an effort to comfort him, Quatre spoke. "We all worry about him. And now that it seems Heero has."

"Heero?" Howard' head shot up and looked at the youthful Arabian, surprise and shock written across his features. "When did he show up?"

"You hadn't heard?" Howard shook his head slightly. "He just showed up this morning, but was turned away. As far as we know he hasn't shown back up, but Duo did see him." Quatre looked to his love for support. Trowa pulled him closer into an embrace.

"Is Duo okay? I know that he still can't seem to get over Heero. In fact just a couple of years ago he asked me to commission a statue of Heero."

"WHAT?!?" Quatre gasped and Trowa fixed his stare on Howard.

"Yeah, he said he wanted something to remember him by, so I found someone to do it." He looked at them hesitantly, not knowing if it is his place to tell them everything about the deal. He knew that it was kept in a clearing away from the main grounds and was considered off limits to all but Duo.

"Why would he ask for that?" Trowa asked seeing Quatre was still somewhat in shock from the implications of the personal statue of Heero.

Howard shook his head and looked out the window. "That is something you will have to ask him yourself." He said then turned his attention back to the boys. "I personally think that Duo had believed Heero, basically dead and had it built as a memorial to him. He did disappear without a trace for the past 3 plus years. I guess I could see where he would start to believe such a thing." He looked back out the window. "I just wish he would have found it in him to go to his friends for help before shutting himself off. I just hope that he can finally heal now that he knows Heero is still alive and looking for him. Maybe they can make amends and move on."

Trowa and Quatre looked at each other and understood how much their appearance would be needed to help in that healing. With that in mind, the rest of the ride was traveled in silence.
