COMMENTS: Wind and rain seemed an appropriate atmosphere. Transitions between shots are all "fade through black" (like a blink). The song is "The Prodigal (I'll Be Waiting)" from Amy Grant's album "Unguarded". Shots are called in square brackets [ ] after the pertinent line of the song. As usual, shot calls are brief. Turn on your imagination. See also the fic ("I'll Be Waiting" in the Serious Fics section) that goes with this.

WARNINGS: shonen ai, the war ends in June AC196, no "Endless Waltz"

I'll Be Waiting (A Vidfic)

[Long shot, 3/4 rear, Duo's right. They look at each other for a moment. Heero turns walks out the door.]

I face the day again
[Full-length shot, looking down. Duo wakes up in bed, Heero beside him. Image of Heero fades as Duo sits up and looks at the spot where it was.]

Against the window pane
[Medium shot, rear left 3/4. Duo sitting at kitchen table, cereal and toast before him, looking out the window at the wind-blown rain.]

I remain your closest friend
[Close up, front, left 3/4. Duo's face. Sad.]

And wish you back again
[Wide shot of table. Duo, breakfast half-eaten, looking at a hazy image of Heero in the empty chair opposite him.]

You wonder how I feel
[Soft edges. A memory. Duo hugging Heero.]

You think you've pushed me too far
[Soft edges. A memory. Heero shaking his head.]

If only you could see this pen
[Close up. A notebook. "If only you could see this pen" is being written.]

Scribbling down my heart
[Waist-up shot, profile, Duo's left. Duo writing in the notebook.]

I'll be waiting
[Through the window. Duo looking out the window.]

I may be young or old and grey
[Full-body shot, 3/4 front, Heero's right. Heero, denim shorts, tank top. Sitting before his computer, typing.]

Counting the days
[Waist-up shot, profile, Heero's right. Heero pauses, looks up at wall.]

But I'll be waiting
[Over Heero's right shoulder. Focus on generic calendar hanging on wall. April, AC198.]

And when I finally see you come
[Waist-up shot, profile, Duo's left. Duo looks up from writing and out the window.]

I'll run when I see you
[Wide shot. Duo running toward camera. Pan to follow him to front door.]

I'll meet you
[Medium-long shot, front of house. Door opens. Duo's face falls. There's no one there.]

But still the days drag on
[Long shot, 3/4 rear, Heero's right. Jeans, jacket. Walking down an empty street on a rainy night.]

Why did you decide to go
[Medium-close shot, profile, Heero's right. Head down, frowning.]

Did you only need to see
[Medium shot, 3/4 front, Heero's right. He pauses under an awning.]

What only time can show
[Medium shot, front. Heero looks around at the empty street.]

I'll be waiting
[Close up. Heero's hand pulls out of his jacket pocket.]

I may be young or old and grey
[Close up. Hands holding battered envelope with Heero's name on it.]

Counting the days
[Waist-up shot, front. Heero sighs looking at the envelope.]

But I'll be waiting
[Waist-up shot, 3/4 rear, Heero's right. Removing paper from envelope.]

And when I finally see you come
[From Heero's perspective, looking down. Hands holding envelope and creased, torn paper with words. "I'll be waiting," and "Aishiteru."]

I'll run when I see you
[Close up. Front. Tears on Heero's face. Head shaking.]

(Instrumental bridge)
[Camera pans to track Heero as he runs down the street.]
[Long shot from behind of Heero running through the rain.]
[Shot up a flight of stairs. Heero's right as he passes camera into shot, then up stairs out of shot.]
[Thighs-up shot, profile, Heero's right. He fumbles with keys and unlocks door.]
[Shot of door across room. Heero enters and closes door behind him.]
[Full body shot from behind as Heero lays down on the bed.]
[Heero's calendar. June AC199.]

And even if
[Long shot, profile, Duo's left. At kitchen table writing.]

You never do return
[Closeup. Notebook. "You never do return" is being written.]

Still I will have learned
[Waist-up shot, profile, Duo's left. Stops writing. Hands shaking.]

How to love you better
[Closeup. Notebook. Ink smeared by tears on paper. Pen falls.]

I'll be waiting
[Closeup. Duo's face. Tears on his face.]

I may be young or old and grey
[Over Duo's left shoulder as he looks out the window. Calendar on table is in focus. October AC200.]

Counting the days
[Looking in through the window. Duo's face. Mouth open. Eyes wide.]

But I'll be waiting
[Wide shot. Duo running toward camera. Pan to follow him to front door.]

And when I finally see you come
[Medium-long shot, front of house. Door opens. Duo runs out into the rain.]

I'll run to meet you
[Waist-up shot, front. Heero stops, pulls back slightly, uncertain.]

I'll be waiting
[Waist-up shot, profile Duo's left. Duo runs up and grabs Heero and hugs him tight.]

I may be young or old and grey
[Mid-back-up shot, Heero's back/Duo's face. Duo crying, smiling, talking fast.]

Counting the days
[Waist up shot, 3/4 Heero's back, Duo's right. Heero stands there. Duo holding him.]

But I'll be waiting
[Waist up shot, profile, Duo's right. Tentatively, Heero's arms rise and close around Duo.]

And when I finally see you come
[Close up, Heero's face, sad, but with a hint of a smile. Lips moving. "Aishiteru."]

I'll run to meet you
[Close up, Duo's face, smiling. Lips moving. "I've been waiting."]

(Chorus repeats and fades)
[Long shot up the front walk holds as... They break the embrace. Duo leads Heero inside, arm around Heero's waist. The door closes.]

CLOSING COMMENTS: When I first set out to write this, they were going to have an argument and Duo was going to leave and live on the streets for a while. Then I decided the story would be stronger if Duo waited, because he hates waiting, but had trouble understanding why Heero (or Duo for that matter) would live on the streets. Then I came up with this scenario, flirted with the idea of making Heero the writer again, but ended up where you see it.
