Duo Maxwell was not happy. Beyond having his wife tell the courts that he is some sort of pervert, loosing co-custody rights to his children, and now sleeping alone, he was standing in a huge line at the store. That wouldn't have been too terribly bad if it hadn't been his evening with his kids and it seemed like a waste of valuable together time.
"Daddy! Daddy!" Duo's little princess called for his attention. He quickly picked up the loud child. "Shhh, Rain. You'll wake your little brother."
The violet eyed child put on her best female pout. "Don't care. You like Sky better than me."
Duo looked down at the sleeping baby boy in the carrier then curiously back at his daughter. "Oh, Honey, why would you say that?"
Little Rain looked her Daddy in the eyes. "Mommy says you like boys better'n girls."
Bitch! Duo thought to himself. No, I don't like boys better than girls. I will not lie. But I do, however, like men better than women! I swear, if I could kill her! Controlling his emotions, he smiled at his daughter "No Rainy, I like boys and girls, just the same. Mommy is just sad right now, so give her a break. Okay?"
Seeming to accept this, Rain went about the business of being a precocious child. Duo was so lost in his thoughts, he didn't notice the man standing directly behind him. When he felt a hand grab his braid, he almost jumped for joy. He knew who had a handle on him, the one and only Heero Yuy. "Heero." He slowly turned to face the Prince of the World. Forever, his soul mate.
For Duo, there was nothing more beautiful than this man standing before him. Even as he tried to hide himself behind the dark sunglasses and baseball cap, neither heaven nor earth could possibly have anything to compare to him. Everything from his tight faded jeans to his casual tee shirt of the most amazing blue was so perfect.
Rain stepped forward, "You better leggo o' my Daddy's hair! He'll whap you! Not even Mommy can touch it!"
"Really?" Heero asked quietly as he raised a speculative eyebrow at Duo.
Duo smirked and leaned closer so that Rain couldn't hear. "Only you, Heero."
The corner of Heero's mouth turned up just slightly. "Only me." His fist still possessively wrapped around the braid.
The jeep pulled up in front of a small but cozy looking home. Heero looked over at Duo, his face seemed heavy with tremendous sadness. He wanted to kill Hilde for what she was doing to Duo. Honestly it looked like he hadn't eaten or slept in months!
"Daddy! Come in and kiss Mommy." Rain called out merrily from the back seat as she struggled to get out of her restraints.
Heero saw Duo fight to keep a grin on his face. "Let's go, Rainy, your Mom's waiting." Heero got out and pulled his seat forward to get the baby carrier out. He turned around to find Duo waiting.
"Thanks, Heero." Duo said quietly as he took the carrier containing his sleeping son and started toward the house.
Leaning against the hood of the jeep, Heero watched Duo and his children approach the door. "This isn't right." He hissed under his breath. To see and feel the absolute helplessness and despair emanating from Duo was heart wrenching.
The front door was suddenly yanked open; Hilde stood there with her hands on her hips looking for all the world like a cartoon housewife. "You're six minutes late!" she shrieked.
Duo said nothing and handed the carrier to Hilde's awaiting hand. Rain ran up and squeezed her Mom's leg. "Daddy is fun! We had pizza and played games!" Hilde gave her daughter a smile.
"Good night, Rainy." Duo said as he turned to leave.
"Night, Daddy" Rain called from the door. Inside the house, voices could be heard. The children were taken into the house as Hilde glared at Duo. "Get them back on time or the court will be hearing about this."
Heero couldn't take anymore of her cruel words. Knowing that Duo was silent only out of concern for his position with the children, Heero pushed himself away from the jeep and stepped forward. If nothing else, he would stand by Duo to let him know that he wasn't alone anymore.
Hilde noticed his presence immediately. "Well, well. I should have known you would come for him." All she got in response was Heero's silence.
Heero walked over to Duo and whispered, "I'll drive."
Duo nodded and handed Heero the keys, which made it look like they were going to hold hands.
"By the way, lovebirds, I've got something for you!" Hilde called out in an all out mocking voice.
Both men scowled as laughter sounded from a group of people in the front room. Hilde stood in the doorway once again and threw a strange looking object to the sidewalk. It landed with a weird sounding thump.
Heero stared down at a latex skin colored undergarment with a rather large latex penis sticking out of the front of it. "I believe that's yours!" Hilde called out. More laughter shook the small house. "And this too!" she threw a large scrapbook at them.
"Sorry, Heero. I didn't know she would do that to you." Duo picked up the strap-on dildo and the scrapbook. "Let's get out of here."
Duo headed for the car, but Heero walked back to the door. Hilde glared at him, almost daring him to kill her.
"Leave him alone." He stated evenly.
"Why? What are you going to do? Use all your money and power to stop me?"
Heero never flinched. "I will stop you. No money, no power. Just me."
The look Heero gave Hilde sent shivers down her spine and she realized that he was totally serious. If she didn't leave Duo alone, he would kill her. No problems, no regrets. Hilde quickly slammed the door in Heero's face.
Heero got into the jeep and started it up. Duo looked out of the window "What did you say to her?"
"I told her to leave you alone." Heero said as they started down the street.
"Thanks, Heero, but she won't listen."
Heero up-shifted the vehicle. "She did this time."
