Priceless Gifts
Part 6

As Heero's thoughts came back to where they had started, wondering how to handle the return of the boy responsible for Wufei's injuries, Duo walked up to him with a worried look on his face. Looking at him as if there had been a serious change in things, Duo commented quietly, "Heero, we need to talk."

"Aa," Heero responded, pushing away from the wall to take this conversation away from the room the others were in. He assumed correctly that Duo had finally realized what was going to occur the next day and it was time to start damage control before said damage had a chance to occur in the first place.

As he walked, Duo thrust his hands into his pockets and looked at the floor trying to decide how angry he really was. He'd suffered from sleep deprivation himself on occasion and he knew how delusional a person could get, so part of him just wanted to forgive Quatre as long as he got it straight in his head that Trowa was not his to begin with.

On the other hand, he had worked hard to draw Wufei out of his shell and he was damned well not going to let the blond drive him away with such foolishness. Duo agreed with Heero, change was in the air at OZ and they needed to be ready as a unified force and if Quatre's presence now cut into their chances to build that team, then what?

Yet, he also knew they needed all five pilots and with Wufei unconscious for longer than expected, it was impossible to know when he would be up to the performance levels required to pilot a Gundam again.

Distracted and angry, Duo failed to note when Heero stopped in his tracks and simply faced him.

"What?!?" Duo demanded angrily when he bumped into the immovable object that his lover was able to become when he wanted to.

"I thought you felt we needed to talk," Heero smirked, arms crossed and looking more than a little challengingly at his lover.

Duo leaned his head back in caution, that was *not* the way Heero usually sounded when he was willing to talk something over reasonably. "Yeah," he started slowly, wondering if he needed to turn and run before he finished his sentence, "I do, but what're you trying to pull here, Heero?"

"'Pull', Duo? Me?"

"Oh puh-lease! Spare me the fake innocence! I know an act when I--EEP!" Duo never did get to finish his sentence after all as Heero suddenly pulled the door open to their bedroom and dragged the other boy in, pushing the door closed behind them. He deposited the braided boy rather easily on the bed and then lay down beside him, just grinning.

Heero then planted a deep kiss on his lover's lips which brought another happy squeak from the American. After a few moments, the kiss ended as they tried to catch their breath.

"So, Heero," Duo grinned as he unbraided his hair since Heero liked it down when they made love, "What *were* you worried about? I'm guessing it's about Quatre coming back tomorrow. I saw the message from his sister on my computer." He stopped what he was doing to search the cobalt-blue eyes for any signs of worry or even fear over the upcoming changes in their lives because of this most questionable reunion.

As Duo's face darkened with concern, Heero leaned over and kissed him briefly.

"Are you going to beat him up, koi?" Heero asked softly using the term he reserved for when they were alone combined with a rather odd way of phrasing his concern.

Laughter sparkled in the violet eyes which looked back equally concerned yet seeing the humor in the question just the same. "Um, maybe, maybe not, dunno." Black-clad shoulders shrugged as Duo pondered this more seriously. "He deserves to have the shit kicked out of him for this, you know that, right?"

"Of course."

"But it wasn't really his fault, though, so maybe just a good scare would take care of it."

"Perhaps."

"Then again, he better understand that Trowa Barton is *not* his and that if Tro wants to give something a try with Wu he needs to stay the hell out of the way."

"Definitely."

"And if Quatre feels like this is gonna keep him from fighting, he can just get over it! I'm not letting him off the hook just for being an idiot and not sleeping when he should in the first place."

"Agreed."

"So," Duo finally stopped and realized that not only had Heero agreed with what he'd said, the other boy had taken the opportunity to begin undressing him as well. He glanced down at his own bare chest and smiled before he lay back down and gave up. "So, that's that. We cope with Quatre when he gets here and I take it we aren't worrying about cooking dinner, ne?"

Heero just smiled and moved to pull his own tank top off and then laid down across the other's smoothly muscled torso and mumbled, "Dinner? What's that?"

"Never mind. Come here, you damned tease!" Duo grinned, pulling him into a long kiss that carried them both away on a pleasant cloud of seduction.

The slightly noisy couple was far enough from the smallest bedroom that Trowa was understandably confused when he woke up at 10pm to wonder where everyone was. He left Wufei's side briefly to get some milk and encountered Heero munching on a bag of mini-carrots and typing at his laptop dressed in only a pair of Duo's gray sweat shorts instead of the usual black spandex.

"Heero? Everything okay?" Trowa asked as he poured the cold drink and then turned to go back to Wufei's side.

"Just perfect," Heero snickered, and went back to typing without another word.

"Oh? Well, okay," Trowa said, wondering what was going on, but not wondering enough to stay behind to find out. He passed Duo in the hallway, surprised when the other grinned at him like a maniac.

"Duo?" Trowa asked in confusion.

The braided boy's grin broadened. "Be vewy, vewy quiet!" he whispered in an Elmer Fudd voice as he returned to tracking down big game. The Deathscythe pilot had decided it was time for round two and he had little time to waste chatting with Trowa.

"I see! Have fun then." The tall teen chuckled at his friends' antics before he made his way back to the bedroom where the dark-haired youth he was in love with slumbered.

The tall brunette went back to watching over Wufei and wondering how much longer he would have to wait for another sign the smaller boy was actually improving. The other couple wore each other out quite handily and the safehouse was soon silent again.
