All Hallow's Eve
Epilogue
by Granate
Knock knock!!
"Anyone alive in there?" a woman's voice asked through the door.
Duo and Heero woke and sprang apart just before Relena's mother threw the door open.
"Did you two survive last night?" she asked with a smile, then wagged her finger at the boys, "Heero,
you better not have been drunk last night when Duo dragged your sorry butt in here! Don't think your father and
I didn't notice, and don't "Yes mom," me young man! There was a party in the warehouse district
last night, let me not catch wind that either of you were there! Duo your brother would have your head!"
She saw the look of confusion on both sleepy boys and sighed in a motherly way. "Well, come down when you're
hungry, and I've already called Solo, Duo. And, is that a priest's collar? No tact, Duo," she laughed
She shut the door and Duo and Heero just blinked at eachother. It was Relena's mother all right, but she thought
Heero was her son! Duo looked around and gasped. Instead of Relena's room, they were in a boy's room! Complete
with posters of rock bands and sci fi movies, a computer, a stack of CDs, a shelf of books, and a boyish grey comforter
spread over them instead of the pink flowered one Duo had pulled up last night.
Heero looked around in wonder. It looked like he was here to stay! "Duo, what happened last night?"
he asked.
Duo eyed him skeptically, not sure if Zechs had changed what Heero knew about himself. "What do you remember?"
he asked.
Heero eyed him in much the same way. He sighed. Well, if Duo didn't remember any of it, then this would just
sound really stupid. "You know, that I'm a Super Duper Cosmic Demon Hunter sent to destroy the Evil Demon
Lord Zechs," he said.
Duo grinned, "You mean an ill-prepared shoe-string budget Demon Hunter forced into the thick of things before
he was fully trained who still saved the day? You did it Heero! You freed Milliardo, and Relena, Miss Noine, Mr.
K. all disappeared with him!"
Heero groaned. "I can't believe all three of them knew where to wait for Zechs and I didn't!"
Duo just laughed. "From what I gathered, they were all much older beings than you, Heeero, so don't feel
bad. Hey, I bet that's why Relena recognized you!"
"Relena recognized me?" Heero frowned.
"Well, I don't know that she knew you were the Hunter, or maybe she just didn't tell us, but when you first
came to school, she said she felt like she'd met you before. Some old crusty guy showed up too, after you killed
Zechs, and said you were part of the prophesy, so maybe Relena was expecting you."
"J came?" Heero chuckled.
"Yeah, he's a mean old geezer," Duo anwered. Heero just laughed. "Did he really train you?"
Heero nodded. "Well, he was gonna take you away and get rid of you, but I, um, I didn't let him."
"Yeah, uh, the… kiss," Heero bit his bottom lip nervously. He hoped Duo did not feel embarrassed about
that.
"Yeah," Duo scratched his head and looked away, "He never found out about that, but I'm pretty sure
he wouldn't have been too happy about it… Um, were you?"
Heero just blinked at him.
"You know, was it ok? I just… suddenly couldn't help it. I won't do it again, though, if you don't want
me to. I don't want you to feel weird," Duo trailed off.
"Ok? Duo it was more than ok!" Heero said, moving closer.
"Really?" Duo said, turning toward him.
"Uh huh," Heero breathed, moving his mouth towards Duo's. The long-haired boy met him eagery and they
kissed gently again.
When Heero moved away, he saw Duo grinning. "I think Zechs used his power to change everything!" he
said.
"Is that why I suddenly have parents?"
"Yeah! Relena left with him, so I think you're taking her place! This is your room, and your parents!"
Duo explained.
"So, I'm not an exchange student any more?" Heero asked.
"Guess not! And it looks like you've got a lot to learn about yourself," Duo hinted, gesturing to Heero's
CDs, books, and posters.
Heero looked a little overwhelmed. "This will be strange, I'm not sure I can do it," he said.
"Hey, you're using contractions already!" Duo noted gleefully, "You'll be fine! Can't be worse
than slaying demons! And you've still got me, so you can't fail!"
Heero smiled at him, and then touched the cross on his chest. Duo looked down. It was back to normal. Last night
it had been 4 times its normal size. He caught Heero's fingers and pressed them to his chest.
"We're the only ones who remember," he said quietly.
"I can live with that," Heero replied.
"Do you still have any power?" Duo asked.
Heero aimed his palm at a hapless plant on the window sill but nothing happened. "I think I'm really human
now!" he said to Duo.
"I can live with that!" Duo grinned.
---Monday after school---
"Hey, guys!" Hilde said running up to Heero and Duo as they walked out of the building after classes
got out. "We're all going over to Quatre's! Are you coming?"
"Yeah, we'll be there in a bit!" Duo waved to her, "We're gonna walk!"
"Oh, hey, are you two trying out for the basketball team this week? I'm sure you'll both make it! The team
will be, like, unbeatable!" she gushed.
They looked at each other. "Yeah, we're trying out," Duo said, hoping he'd read Heero correctly.
"Ahem," Heero cleared his throat.
Duo rolled his eyes, "Ok! Geez. And, yes, if I make it I won't get kicked off. Happy?"
Heero smiled. Hilde laughed and ran off to catch up with Dorothy and Trowa. No one had ever heard of a blond
girl named Relena which made Duo kind of sad. But she had wanted to leave, and she'd given him Heero instead.
"God, are you and Solo going to gang up on me now?" he joked as they cut across the football field.
"Probably," Heero shrugged.
"You know, you're already fitting in a lot better," Duo observed.
"You mean by blowing off my homework on Saturday to go with you and Chang to the batting cage?" Heero
said.
"Yeah!" Duo laughed.
"And again on Sunday afternoon to go that movie?"
"Uh huh!" Duo nodded eagerly.
"I had to do all my work on Sunday night!" Heero exclaimed as if he had been betrayed.
"Yeah, that's the point of a weekend!" Duo exclaimed sacrastically. Heero just shook his head
ruefully.
"Um, Heero?" Duo asked shyly. Heero looked at him. "I uh, made you something in metal shop today,"
Duo said, stopping and digging in jacket.
"You did?" Heero asked.
Duo pulled a small box out of his coat pocket and handed it to Heero. Inside, Heero found a silver sword exactly
like his old one hanging on a black cord. "Thank you, Duo!" he said in disbelief.
"It doesn't get any bigger than that, but you know, you can always look at it and remember who you are. And
I thought you looked kinda cool wearing the sword…" Duo trailed off.
Heero put it on right away. "Thank you Duo," he said again, "I felt kind of strange without it."
"Once a Hunter, always a Hunter, I guess!" Duo grinned. Heero leaned over and kissed him briefly. Duo
felt elated. He liked the way Heero touched his hair when they kissed. They hadn't kissed since they woke up
together on Saturday morning, they just hadn't had any time alone.
"Thank you, Duo, for everything," Heero murmured, hugging Duo hard. Duo hugged back and waited for Heero
to pull away.
"Ready to go to Quatre's now?" he smiled, "Maybe you've inherited Relena's record at 'Dead or Alive'!"
"'Dead or Alive'?" Heero asked confusedly.
"Oh boy!" Duo laughed, tugging Heero's sleeve, "Come on!"
